Indonesia’s Bornevia, a customer relationship management software, is shutting down. It sent an email to its customers today, telling them they can migrate their data to Zendesk – a rival service – or other similar services.
“In connection with the decision of our investors, by the end of April 2017, Bornevia will shut down its software service. This is because the investors will carry out a liquidation of Bornevia’s assets,” the email says in Indonesian.
It adds customers will receive a refund for the months beyond April if they have already paid for a full-year subscription.
The startup had raised a pre-series A round of funding from East Ventures and Beenos Partners in 2015.
Both co-founders Benny Tjia and Tjiu Suryanto have confirmed the shutdown. At the core of the company’s struggles were differences between the co-founders, they admit.
“While we were about to execute our next strategy for 2017, there came a point where I didn’t view this as a healthy way to grow the company further. Therefore, Tjiu and I decided that we should shut down the company and to return the remaining cash in the bank to the investors by April 30th,” Benny explains.
Willson Cuaca of East Ventures also confirms the startup’s closure.
With regard to the note that went out to Bornevia’s customers, Benny says it was based on a misunderstanding on Tjiu’s side, who assumed it was due to an investor decision. “It’s entirely our decision to shut down the company,” Benny says.
Bornevia was founded by Benny Tjia and Tjiu Suryanto in 2014. The following year, it said it was serving 1,100 companies from over 60 countries, but didn’t disclose how many of them were paying users.
Update 9:50 pm: We added the co-founder’s confirmation and clarificaiton regarding the note that was sent out to customers.
